Andover Emails
Fall 2017 | Email Template System v2
The fall of 2017 marked change for the Phillips Academy brand in two ways. First, the Andover brand changed with the launch of a new website. This change began in print one year prior. Second, the email templates were also updated to incorporate the updated Andover brand.
The Problem
Over the last few years, Phillips Academy began to send more email than the Office of Communications could manage and send individually. During the same timeframe, I had been training users on Campaign Monitor, the mass email tool Phillips Academy uses. With a distributed workforce able to send emails for the school, there were many who could help send email.
The Solution: Email Template System
To solve this email management/send problem, I created an email template system 2-3 years ago. The system is a custom coded framework that allows me to create email templates within the Andover brand to meet the office and department needs across the school. A template system improves email template creation and debugging, as I understand the code and know what each template requires. Each template can have different content modules with a similar appearance or with a custom designed look and feel, as the client needs. This email template system works well with the mass email tool.
Email Template System v2
The fall of 2017 marked a transformation for the email template system. The email template system needed updates to improve support for Gmail, integrate the updated Andover brand, and provide a clean build for each template. The email template system v2 was born.
I reinvented the template system to use the Gulp build process with Nunjucks, HTML, and CSS. This provides an improved build solution for each template developed. Gmail support is built-in using the hybrid code method, but maintains support for the majority of all email clients, including MS Outlook 2007+. The updated Andover brand is designed/developed into the email template system. Each template in the system is coded responsively to work on all device screen sizes with cross browser and platform support. All templates have been rigorously Litmus tested to support the majority of all email clients inline with the Phillips Academy standards.
Examples
Each email example uses one of the templates in the email template system v2. I did provide assistance to the content creators as needed, but I did not build each email. These email examples provide an overview of the usefulness of the email template system.
